Pick your name - once you have decided on a platform, you can now pick the name of your blog. If your original idea is already in use, they will let you know and you will have to change it. Keep your title snappy and related to your topic if you want to get hits. Joe's blog is not going to get any action. Pick a template - this is the visual outline of your site and should coincide with your theme. For instance, you are not going to choose a template used for gardening if you want to do a sports blog. Every site is going to have tons of them for you to look through. Keep looking until you find the one that suits you best.
Guess what, you just started your own blog! There are tons of customizations that you can do as you get more familiar with the site, but they are not necessary in the beginning.
